Article Writing: Writing For The Internet

Article by Thomas Bjorn

Here are the most pertinent instructions for selecting right approach for writing extremely good pieces of writing on Internet. You have to put up your articles on sale in case you write for money. You must understand your business better than others who are not required to sell their writings. Our focus here will be on skills needed for writing articles instead of qualities required for selling them.

The Foremost Rule You should write according to the taste of your intended reader, not according to your own personal taste. This means that you need to explore, identify, and target your message towards specific readers with specific interests. For instance, in an article on the financial market you can’t target grandmothers looking for designs of knitting. You need to write your message according to the comprehension of target readers. No one will understand even correct stuff until and unless it is presented properly.

Keep in mind that people who browse the Internet are impatient. They click off the material once they read something that is not pertinent to their cause, and they only linger on an article that they consider important and pleasing.

Before you even put pen to paper, ask yourself this important question: Who are your readers? You will be able to make a decision about type of article you need to write by answering this question. The article may be of any kind such as technical, marketing or philosophical, all which are dissimilar in nature, which is why you must correctly identify your target audience.

In addition to identifying your intended readers, you must also ask yourself another question: Why do you wish to produce this piece of writing? In answering this question, you are really narrowing your approach to writing your article in the first place.

The Main Approaches The articles on the Internet can be classified into four wide approaches:

- Writing for Selling: Marketing articles often sell commodities or services to woo readers to a web site. The fast-paced speed of these articles are immediately obvious and, for this reason, the content of marketing remains small in size. Keywords are important for selling because they invite readers performing general word searches.

- Technical Writing: This type of writing requires actual facts. The technical aspect is well understood with diagrams. Even if the writing lacks visual aids, descriptions and writing is precise so as to avoid misunderstanding. If you use highly technical words, be aware that a common man would find it difficult to understand. And if the article has more of the style, the people with technical expertise will find it without technical details.

- Trendy Writing: The extensive use of blogs in the recent times has made this writing very popular. The main aspects here are to make the content more appealing and entertaining. This kind of writing should still try to be as straightforward as possible, as well as short and full of quick points. Trendy writing tends to lack details and arguments.

- Intellectual Writing: This writing requires detailed description of a particular field and often makes references from popular books. Intellectual writing is aimed at contributing to a field of study. However, it does not necessarily have to be academic in nature. Good examples of intellectual writing are book reviews and editorial columns.

The Internet is the most popular media for sharing the information and if used in an efficient manner, it can work wonders for you.

Internet Article Writing: Writing with a (Re)Purpose

Article by Celeste Stewart

Whether you’re looking to save time or potentially earn more money with your Internet article writing, writing with a purpose (of repurposing the content) can help you. That’s not to say that everything you write should be used and reused. However, writing with repurposing material in mind can be rewarding.

What Does it Mean to Repurpose Content?
Let’s take this article as an example. It was originally written for a newsletter that goes out to other freelance writers. In addition, it will be posted on several article directories where it will generate additional website traffic and help improve the website’s page rank thanks to keyword rich links placed in the resource box for each article directory page it appears on. Eventually, this same article could appear in an eBook about freelance Internet article writing. The article could also be posted on revenue-share sites where it can generate revenue based on page or advertising impressions. It can also be reworked and submitted for usage rights on Constant-Content.com. The article could also be posted on a blog or converted into a podcast.

How Writing with a (Re)Purpose Makes You More Effective
Think about what you want to accomplish with your Internet article writing business right now. If building links to your website is high on your list of priorities, then start with article marketing. But don’t stop there! Spend a few minutes brainstorming topics. Rather than writing a bunch of similar articles, write a series that could eventually become an eBook. As you write each article, you’ll be slowing creating material that you can repurpose into an eBook. Not only will you have valuable backlinks pointing to your website, you’ll soon have an eBook that you can sell!

You could also turn those articles into podcasts or use them as a video script. It all begins by writing with a (re)purpose. You’ll be more effective because the first project creates the bulk of a second project.

Internet Article Writing and Repurposing Challenges
While writing with a (re)purpose is an excellent way to work more effectively, some pitfalls do exist. For example, if you write a series of articles for your newsletter and then try to sell those same articles repurposed into an eBook to these same subscribers, you’ll likely alienate your subscribers. That said, you could create a special report or free eBook out of past newsletter articles as an incentive for new subscribers to sign up for your newsletter. The goal is to get the material in front of more eyeballs, not boring your existing audience with reruns.

If you write for others, avoid the temptation to repurpose existing work. Your clients expect original content. The exception to this would be if your client wants you to write specifically with repurposing in mind for the client’s benefit.

Finally, if plan on selling your repurposed articles to a site like Constant-Content.com, remember that you can only ask for usage rights and all variants of the article must be clearly attributable to you. If you intend on using Constant-Content.com as part of your repurposing strategy, it’s smart to post the original article there first for usage rights before publishing it anywhere else.

Writing with a (re)purpose takes a little planning upfront, but can make you work more effectively. It can also help you achieve multiple goals at once such as building backlinks with your Internet article writing while also creating an information product.

WRITE, WRITE, WRITE!
By Dr Kem Thompson

I should just leave this tip at that, shouldn’t I?:)

But seriously, writing is a cost- effective way of promoting
your business. It exposes you to potential customers in a way
that few other marketing vehicles do.

Writing and submitting your work to online sites gives you
fr*ee marketing opportunities. It also increases your credibility
in the eyes of potential customers.

Have you taken advantage of this very effective marketing
strategy?

If not, why not?

~*~’What If I Can’t Write?’~*~
Common question, common excuse with a simple answer:
if you can talk, you can write.

You don’t need to be a professional writer before
you can write as a way of marketing your business.

All you do need to do is
. Want to write
. Decide to write
. Write

~*~’What Should I Write~*~
A few ideas are:

. Articles
. Tips (eg top ten or top five ways to….)
. Letters to editors
. Reports (yes, reports!)

think of some more and add them to this list.

~*~What Topics Should I Write About?~*~
Here, your only limitation is in your imagination.
So be creative and let these questions serve as guidelines
in helping you decide what to write about:

. What information will potential customers find
useful?

. What are you interested in? Find a way to make it
relevant to your business and write about it.

. If you were in your potential customers’ shoes, what
topics (related to your business) would interest you?

. In what ways have you solved problems for people in
the past? Write them down. Chances are, other people
would benefit from the solution you provided.

. What are your experiences as a business owner? Write
about them.

. Fill in the blanks :
a) How To…….
b) Top 5 Ways to……
c) What Many People Don’t Know About……
d) My Favourite Pastime is….

What you’ve got now is a bunch of potential headings for your
articles, tips, reports or whatever.
If you think about it, there’s a lot for you to write about.

All you have to do now is actually put pen to paper (hand to
computer).

~*~What Should I Do With What I’ve Written?~*~

Submit, submit, submit!

Newsletter editors and webmasters all over the ‘net are looking
for fr*ee content for their subscribers and visitors.

Imagine the exposure you get by submitting an article to an
ezine with thousands of opt-in subscribers. Fr*ee of charge, too!
It’d be more expensive (and not always as effective in pulling
in prospects) to advertise in the same publication.

Here is a brief list of places that accept articles for
publication or announcement:

. PromoteYourArticle@yahoogroups (you need to subscribe fr*ee)
. article_announce@yahoogroups.com (subscribe first. Fr*ee)
. http://www.family-content.com/articles/submit.shtml
. http://ezinearticles.com/add_url.html

To receive a list of 50 groups and sites that accept
submissions send an email to submissionlist@daysofsuccess.com.

Here’s how it works. The key is to have a system that you use.
An example is below:

. Write at least one article each month.
. Include a resource box at the end of it.
. Include permission to fr*eely distribute it at the top.
. Submit it to at least 5 sites each day.

~*~To make your writing easily acceptable and profitable~*~

. Provide useful information. No sales letters or pitches.

. Include some way to get readers to contact you:
you could offer a fre*ebie or a link to your website.
This info goes into your resource box.

. Make your resource box about 4 – 6 lines long. I’ve
included mine at the end of this article to give you
an idea.

. Write it using a text editor like Notepad – that’s
how many editors prefer to receive submissions.

. Format it to be 65 characters long per line. Press
the ‘enter’ key each time you get to 65 characters
(unless your text editor has word-wrap in which case
you’d set it to wrap at 65 characters).

. Always obey submission guidelines to the letter.

. Follow the writing tips below.

~*~Writing Tips~*~

. Write like you talk. Be conversational in your
writing. If you can hold a conversation, you can write.

. After writing your first draft, leave it to ‘fallow’
then start on your next article.

. Never submit your first draft. Rewrite it after a day
or two.

. Spell check thoroughly. Check for grammar errors too.
Get someone else to read through it if you can – they
may pick up something you’ve missed.

. Obey submission guidelines (it’s so important, hence
my repeating it here)

. Write something everyday. Even if it’s just a personal
journal entry, just write. It’ll get you into the
habit, and keep you creative.

I didn’t quite expect this ‘tip’ to turn into a full blown
article! But hey, I enjoyed writing it, and I hope you’ve
enjoyed reading it.

If you have then start writing today.

And start submitting.
